I am feeling good. Great, maybe. The nausea subsided around 13 weeks. I had about a week of respite, but then I got some mysterious flu-like illness. I was convinced I had listeriosis, a type of food-poisoning that is rare, but that can be devastating during pregnancy. I had the chills, but no fever, terrible body aches, a headache, and fatigue. It just didn’t feel like the flu to me, and I actually ended up almost begging the midwife to do a blood test to rule out listeriosis. The test was negative, and I guess it was just the flu. It was not fun, though. Almost immediately after I started feeling better, I also started to feel the baby move! Yay! That was around 15 weeks, which is just a bit earlier than I started feeling Beck move. I’m now feeling the movement more regularly. I had a small cup of coffee this morning, and I think the caffeine made the little one especially active today.
We just returned from a week in Whitefish. It was a very busy week, full of wedding events and visiting with family and friends. It was not as relaxing as we would have liked, but we had fun. Beck was pretty much overwhelmed with fun. He loved watching the airplanes at the airport, he got to go on the boat and drive it (around in circles, as he preferred turning the wheel to the left), and he even enjoyed being dipped in the 68 degree lake! He saw deer, horses, and a goat, and got to go on a horse-driven carriage ride. We really didn’t want to leave, but it’s nice to be back home.
We now need to turn our attention to the many changes that are approaching. We’re going to start looking at houses to determine whether moving is an option. We need a new car, as two car seats won’t fit in the back of my Subaru. And, we just learned that Beck’s day care will only be keeping the full time kids, so we need to find an alternative day care. We hadn’t yet decided whether it will be possible for me to keep working after the second baby arrives, and this will complicate things a little more. When I was pregnant with Beck, I was consumed with researching baby gear and choosing all the supplies. This time, we have the baby stuff, but we need to get the rest of our life in order. We’ll be busy!
