Wow. Nolan is 3 weeks and 2 days old. It's gone soooo fast, but his birth date seems like an eternity ago. Someone once told me that when you have a newborn (or maybe just kids in general), the minutes take forever but the days fly by. That seems about right to me. The past 3 weeks have been...challenging. Beck was a super easy baby. EASY. Really really laid back, and rarely cried. Nolan is...different. He needs to be held a lot more, he nurses a lot, but is kind of picky about it, and until today, he wanted nothing to do with the many wonderful infant seating options we have for him. Today, though, the swing! It worked! He's taking his second nap in it as I type this. Beck is still sleeping, so I thought I better take the opportunity to write a little. He's going to wake up any minute, so I'm going to give you some bullet points of our lives since Nolan arrived.
- crying! it took me a while to accept that babies cry. sometimes for no apparent reason.
- co-sleeping. not our plan, but it's working for now, and i'm getting a decent amount of sleep at night.
- "mama do it" "daddy do it" "me do it" - beck is adjusting to a new little brother, and a change in his day care. paul was home for 2 weeks, basically caring for beck around the clock, and i think he has a renewed appreciation for stay-at-home-parents!
- gas! poor nolan seems to swallow a ton of air when he nurses, which causes gas in his tummy, which probably has a lot to do with the crying. it seems to be improving, though.
- failure to cloth diaper. not only have i not been using cloth diapers on nolan, but beck has also been in disposables the majority of the past 3 weeks. beck is back in cloth today, and i'll tackle cloth diapering a newborn...hmmm, not sure when, but it's still my plan.
- cabin fever! it's been unusually cold and snowy, but the temperature is back up, and i'm ready to get outside and start walking.
Well, I think that's good for now. We're surviving this family of 4 thing and I'm hopeful that things will continue to get easier.

Thanks for the update Sonja. Maybe I'll visit in a few months and pitch-in my changing my first diaper... or maybe i'll just drink beer in the garage...
